About Ernst... Versatile pitcher who could split time as a starter and as a reliever... possesses good command of a sinking fastball and a changeup... very athletic for his size... spent the summer of 2007 with the Stark County Terriers of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League... went 3-1 with a 5.25 ERA for the Terriers... was an accomplished amateur racquetball player before coming to Wake Forest... majoring in communication with a minor in entrepreneurship and social enterprise... son of Greg & Katie Ernst.
In 2007... Appeared in 19 games, making six mid-week starts... went 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA... pitched 52.0 innings on the year, 23.0 out of the bullpen... ranked fifth on the team in innings pitched... tied for 10th in appearances on the Wake Forest freshman single-season list... earned his first collegiate victory April 25 at Appalachian State... allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work in the win.
In 2006... Redshirted the season.
Prior to Wake Forest... Three-year letterwinner at Loveland HS... played summer ball with the Midland Indians in 2005... went 8-1 with a 1.30 earned run average in 67.0 innings pitched... struck out 12.6 batters per seven innings and had a 3/1 strikeout to walk ratio... also third-ranked racquetball player in the Men's Division B in the U.S.
