Men's Golf Fifth After Two Rounds

Floyd leads Deacs in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Senior Ray Floyd, Jr. (Miami Beach, FL/Miami Country Day) shot back-to-back rounds of 71 and 72 to help the Wake Forest men's golf team to a fifth-place standing after the first two rounds of the Puerto Rico Golf Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Floyd currently stands in sixth place at 1-under par, five strokes back of the tournament's leader, Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech.

Senior Ryan Gioffre (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) also had a strong day for the Deacs, firing a 72- 73=145 to stand in 11th place at 1-over.

Wake Forest tallied a team score of 293 to stand fourth after the first round of play, as three players shot at or under par. The Deacs slipped to fifth after recording a 301 in the second round of play in the afternoon and are now 18 strokes out of the team lead.

Junior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) shot a 72 in the first round but struggled in round two, shooting an 84 to fall to 54th in the overall standings at 12-over par. Senior Todd Lynch (Winston-Salem, NC/North Forsyth) shot 78-79=157 and currently stands 57th, while junior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Islands, Spain/Ledbetter Academy -FL) is 72nd (86-77=163).

The Puerto Rico Classic is a 54-hole event held at the 6,945-yard, par-72 River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club. The final round of action continues tomorrow.
