Men's Golf Finishes Seventh at Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico--The Wake Forest men's golf team tallied a final-round team score of 298 to finish in a tie for seventh at the Puerto Rico Golf Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Demon Deacons slipped two spots after the final day and finished the tournament at 28-over par, 17 strokes behind team champion North Carolina.
Senior Ryan Gioffre (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day) continued his consistent play, shooting a 74 on the final day to finish in 11th place at 3-over par. Gioffre was just one stroke away from a top 10 finish and was 11 strokes behind the individual champion, Georgia Tech's Matt Kuchar.
Senior Ray Floyd, Jr. (Miami Beach, FL/Miami Country Day) dropped out of the top 10 with a 77 in round three, finishing out in 15th place at 4-over par.
Junior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) made up for his disastrous second round with a 2-under 70 on the final day and finished 27th overall.
Senior Todd Lynch (Winston-Salem, NC/North Forsyth) and junior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Islands, Spain/Ledbetter Academy -FL) continued to struggle, shooting a 77 and a 79 in the final round, respectively. Lynch placed 57th overall, while Sanchez was 70th.
The Puerto Rico Classic is a 54-hole event held at the 6,945-yard, par-72 River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
