Maryland Outlasts Wake Forest in Overtime, 56-52

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Kalisa Davis scored 17 points, including four of the Terrapins' six points in overtime, as Maryland outlasted host Wake Forest, 56-52, at Joel Coliseum on Wednesday night. After missing their first 10 shots of the game, Wake Forest (4-18, 0-12 ACC) hit 12 of their next 17 attempts to take a 28-20 halftime lead over the Terrapins (13-8, 6-5). The Demon Deacons led by as many as 16 in the second half before Maryland went on a 24-7 run, taking the lead on a Sonia Chase jumper from the top of the key with 1:49 left in regulation. Chase then hit both ends of a one-an-one to increase the Terps' lead to three, but Wake's Alisha Mosley hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Kelley Gibson fed Davis for a layup off the opening tip, then found her again inside at the 1:54 mark to put Maryland ahead for good. Chase iced the game with two free throws with 27.9 seconds to go.

Maryland shot a combined 58 percent from the floor in the second half and overtime periods, while holding Wake Forest to just 34 percent shooting in the same span. Wake outrebounded the Terps, 38-28, but committed 19 turnovers which led to 21 Maryland points. Chase had 16 points and four steals for Maryland, while Stephanie Cross added 12 points. Branka Bogunovic led UM on the boards with six rebounds. For Wake Forest, Mosley scored 13 points, and Heidi Coleman added 11. Olivia Dardy grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for WFU.

The game marked the second time this season that Wake Forest led Maryland by double figures in the second half only to see the game slip away. In the teams' first meeting in January in College Park, the Deacs led the Terps by 12 with 4:26 to go only to lose, 61-59. Wake hosts Florida State on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 12:30 p.m., while Maryland hosts Virginia on Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.
