No. 1 Field Hockey Hosts No. 3 North Carolina

Sept. 30, 2005

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team will host No. 3 North Carolina Saturday afternoon at Kentner Stadium at 1 p.m. The Demon Deacons enter the game undefeated with an 8-0 record and 2-0 mark in the ACC. North Carolina enters the game with an 8-1 record and an 0-1 mark in the conference.

Over the past two years the competition between North Carolina and Wake Forest has been thrilling. In fact, four of the last five meetings have gone into overtime. During the three meetings in 2004, the two teams battled into extra minutes each time, including a triple overtime game in Chapel Hill. After splitting the two regular season games, the Deacs played the eventual ACC champions in the semifinals of the tournament and lost in overtime, 4-3.

The Tar Heels most recently defeated Radford, 4-0. Prior to that game, North Carolina suffered its only loss of the season at home to No. 4 Duke.

Wake Forest is coming off an 8-1 win over Appalachian State on Thursday night. Before that victory, the Deacs defeated No. 2 Maryland, 3-2, in triple overtime. Wake Forest also defeated No. 4 Duke earlier in the season.
