Tim Santoro has been named Assistant Coach for the Wake Forest women's soccer team, bringing with him 18 years of coaching experience in both the collegiate and professional ranks.
Santoro joins the Demon Deacons after seven successful seasons as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston, where he was named associate head coach for his final two years with the Cougars. In 2006, Santoro helped guide the team to a third place finish in the Southern Conference, marking the highest league finish in school history.
"I am ecstatic to add Tim to our staff," said Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz. "He brings a wealth of experience and is hungry to succeed."
Prior to his work in Charleston, Santoro spent three years as a full-time coach for the Charlotte Soccer Club, respected as one of the most talented clubs in the country. Santoro was instrumental in leading the club to its first Region III championship and three USYSA National Championship finalist medals, as well as 19 NCYSA State Cups and 12 USYSA Region III titles.
From 1996-98, Santoro served as Head Coach/Director of Operations of the Charlotte Speed of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) Women's League (W-League). In 1997, The Speed made the Southern Division Playoffs, and was honored by the league in 1998 with USL Organization of the Year award.
Santoro kicked off his coaching career at his alma mater, Catawba College, where he lettered from 1990-94. In 1993, Santoro became a Division II All-American while leading the squad in scoring for back-to-back seasons.
