Women's Tennis Welcomes New Faces for 2008-09 Season

June 25, 2008

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team welcomes three new additions this summer, rising freshmen Martina Pavelec and Ryann Cutillo, as well as Assistant Coach Jon Stokke.

Martina Pavelec is a Stuttgart, Germany native. She became one of the country's top junior competitors and has reached the Top 400 on the WTA tour.

Ryann Cutillo hails from Kings Park, N.Y. and has been ranked in the USTA's Top 50 several times during her prep career.

"We are excited that Martina and Ryann will be joining the team this fall. Both will be looking to compete for starting positions in singles and doubles," Wake Forest head coach Chad Skorupka said.

"They are both great competitors on the court and are great individuals off the court."

Stokke joins the Demon Deacon staff after working at the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. for two years. As a full-time instructor, Stokke coached nationally and regionally ranked junior tennis players in daily training sessions in addition to providing on site coaching at tournaments.

Stokke lettered at Duke, where he served as team captain during the 2006 season and still holds a spot on the all-time career singles wins category. He earned All-American status for doubles during his senior season with the Blue Devils.

"Jon will be a great addition to our team," Skorupka said. "He is a very talented coach and his experience playing in the ACC will be extremely valuable to us."

The Demon Deacons will begin fall action at the Georgia Invitational September 12-14.
